Lonnie M. Long and Gary B. Blackburn Announce Release of ‘Unlikely Warriors’

DAVIDSON, N.C. (PRWEB) July 23, 2013 - “Unlikely Warriors: The Army Security Agency's Secret War in Vietnam 1961-1973” (published by iUniverse) by authors Lonnie M. Long and Gary B. Blackburn is a new military history book which takes readers into the Vietnam War and follows members of the Army Security Agency (ASA) as they conduct top secret missions.

Long and Blackburn chart the years that ASA operated in Vietnam – occurring from 1961 to 1973. With each story, many of which have never been told, readers will find themselves in awe as they learn about specific operations, incidents and battles that involved ASA personnel.

“We want the reader to come away with an appreciation for the job those thousands of young men did and the many thousands of lives they saved through their efforts,” say Long and Blackburn.

An excerpt from “Unlikely Warriors”:

“The men were dressed in indistinguishable dark suits with white shirts and dark ties, and each man carried a new red U.S. diplomatic passport inside his breast pocket. The men held copies of their orders and records in identical brown Manila envelopes, and each man’s medical records were stamped ‘If injured or killed in combat, report as training accident in the Philippines.’”

Patricia Anne Dye’s ‘The Seven Sages’ Explores Wisdom-based World

CHRISTCHURCH, New Zealand (PRWEB) July 21, 2013 - With the publication of her new novel “The Seven Sages” (published by iUniverse), author Patricia Anne Dye presents readers with a transformative tale about seven wise beings who live on the Earth at this time. Each exemplifies a way of living wisely and well from the integrity of the soul.

Many world legends suggest that at any given time, seven sages live on the Earth. They are tasked with the responsibility of anchoring wisdom on behalf of humanity. Each one stands as the personification of a different rung of human consciousness. Together, they represent humanity’s innate ability to save – or destroy – itself.

An excerpt from “The Seven Sages”:

“‘Where does sex fit in all this, then?’ I asked.
‘Ah, sex,’ she sighed, ‘so much glory wrapped up in that act – so much more joy than mere animal satisfaction ... Did you know that sex and salvation are close buddies? Even the most mindless sex encounter gives a glimpse of unity – and that above all is what humans need to feel – a simple sense of oneness with the world, with all care obliterated ...’”

“We scarper across the surface of fast-moving techno-driven societies where there is precious little time for pondering on matters of the spirit,” Dye says, “the ‘how’ of living soulfully. Yet never before in human history has there been such a need for a transformation to wise living; our very survival is at stake.”

New Book 'Of One Womb' Is Author G. Paul Lawrence’s Take on Race and Relations

Tucson, AZ (PRWEB) July 22, 2013 - "Of One Womb: The Essence of Two Families" (published by iUniverse) is the story of James Lee Trucker. The story opens in Louisiana and moves to the suburbs of Los Angeles. Twenty-five years after losing her son to unscrupulous in-laws, Dorothy receives a letter from her son, James Lee, informing her that he wants to meet her, and he would be in LA the next day. With an inter-racial marriage, Dorothy must determine if this man, her son, will be a positive influence on her family, or if his racist attitude will bring them all down.

According to Grigsby, "Of One Womb" addresses "mixed marriages in a way that is real for the reader. This book looks at mixed marriages in a pragmatic way. It scrutinizes many of the obstacles encountered by the participants. But in the end, love can conquer all."

An excerpt from "Of One Womb":

"I love you James Lee. I will always love you. But, I don’t like you. I don’t like you because you are a threat. A threat to the safety of your brother and sister, my children. I don’t like anything that threatens them or who they are to become!" Dorothy’s voice took on a hard edge again. "No! I take that back. I don’t like bigots! I don’t like bigots of any kind even if that bigot is my son."

Black, who produces much-lauded homemade fruit syrups on her working farm, has converted her tasty expertise into a flourishing business. Black’s farm and agri-tourism gift shop are nestled between a grape vineyard and the cliff edge of Lake Erie, located along the national scenic highway known as the Seaway Trail. Grace Snow and Jack Wilde Turn Game into Fantasy Novel

MONUMENT, Colo. (PRWEB) July 19, 2013 - When Grace Snow met Jack Wilde in college, they were playing the role-playing game, Elements, that Wilde had shared with his friends. The two quickly realized the game’s potential for a novel adaptation. The result became, “Elements: Prism’s Edge” (published by iUniverse), the first in their Elements series.

“Some of the book characters are based off of characters created by players from the role-playing sessions we have done in the past, while others were created specifically for the role-plays by Jack,” says Snow. “They have a very real life of their own now as they have been tested and used so many times in real life during the games.”

“Elements” begins on the Elder’s Plane, a different plane of existence, where 15-year old Lily has been living as a princess in her mother’s castle. When her sister, Star, is murdered, Lily becomes the Light Element of Earth and crosses planes to the United States in 2021. There she must learn a new culture and Elemental laws. With the help of new friends such as Rayne the Water Element and Sara the Lightening Element, Lily uses her wit and skills to solve a series of murders in the hope of freeing the only person who can protect the Elements from the uprising dark forces. As the unchecked forces of evil grow stronger, it’s up to Lily to save her race and the world.

“Elements” brings all the excitement of Wilde’s original game with characters that have been carefully carved out. Snow says, “This book may be set in the future, but it has more to do with how teenagers have always felt; alone, lost, depressed and usually looking for their place in society.”

(PRWEB) July 19, 2013 Regina, Saskatchewan - In her new book, "In A Cottage We Once Knew" (Published by iUniverse), the first in the Ever After Tales series, author Robyn Tocker meshes together a fantastical setting with the modern day world and its problems. It tells the story of what it means to be a family, the start of a first love and finding one’s identity.

The book transports readers to the 1500's in Germany, where Snow White's children, Matilda and Eldric embark on an adventure filled with witches, kidnappers, dwarfs, foster homes, love, strength, courage and sacrifices. The story revolves around the lives of Matilda and Eldric and how their experiences and hardships shape their destiny.

Excerpt from “In A Cottage We Once Knew”

"Yes, but what about our real parents? What about our real mother and father? Don't you even wonder what they are like? Don’t you want to find them and maybe, just maybe, figure out where we come from? Don’t you miss them?" Eldric exclaimed, smacking his palm down on the varnished table.

"How can you miss something we never even had! I know where I come from El. I'm from here, with you and the dwarves. What more do you want?" Matilda shot back.

"I need the truth! I need the facts, the hard evidence we have been denied since we were found," Eldric explained.

Matilda slammed her fist on the counter, causing El to jump. She was usually the calmer twin, especially during an argument, but it seemed he had struck a nerve.

Eddie L. Barnes Launches New Marketing Campaign for Old West Gunfighter Novel

Horseshoe Bay, Texas (PRWEB) July 19, 2013 - Author Eddie L. Barnes, with the publication of his 2011 Western novel, “The Diary of a Gunfighter” (published by iUniverse), which is getting a revived marketing push in 2013, explores the traits and mores that make the Western genre what it is.

“The Diary of a Gunfighter” is the story of Simon James Sublette, a man deeply scarred by the Civil War. He sets out wandering the West looking for serenity and finds, instead, strife. He becomes the famous gunfighter known as “the Rhymer” because he speaks in rhyme when stressed. He builds a reputation as a hero to the defenseless and a demon to those who do evil.

An excerpt from “The Diary of a Gunfighter”:

“‘There are men who are vile and evil....and when they come....they must be eliminated….with the use of the gun. I have a Demon in me, Abigail....he comes when danger is near....he comes uncalled....and he has no fear. The Demon hates the ridicule of women and kids....cruelty for the color of a man’s skin....it’s something I can’t control....my blood quickens.... and I kill again. I just want good folks and me to be left alone....then, Abigail, I’m as gentle as a lamb.’ Simon smiled at Abigail. ‘But when the Demon is provoked....well then, that’s when I am what I am.’”

Barnes knows that his unique creation will appeal to readers. “Simon’s diary is written in verse,” he notes, “and his trait of speaking in rhymes will intrigue the reader.”

John W. Gorski Takes Inspiration from Whitman and Dickinson

Seattle, WA (PRWEB) July 18, 2013 - For poet John W. Gorski, music, art and literature have been a saving grace. In “Blue Period in Seattle: Selected Poems (1991-2011)” (published by iUniverse), Gorski finds the physical beauty of everyday situations despite the negative aspects he has faced in his own life.

Of his poetry, Gorski says, “I have strong visual and auditory impressions of the cities and suburbs I’ve lived in. I have a wry, even dry sense of humor about some of the day to day situations I find myself in.” He believes his poetry is straightforward without being too facile.

An excerpt from “Blue Period in Seattle”:

“Umbrella of soft, rainy clouds
above Third avenue
as the clock strikes twelve times
this August Saturday of hypnotized minds.
All the drunken vagabonds
wear the clothes of young men
as they weave down the concrete
with a misty shoreline
in their sleepy, seasick eyes.”

James H. Smith Pens Fun Algebra Workbook

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (PRWEB) July 18, 2013 CHESAPEAKE, Va. – For many young students, algebra is the bane of existence, posing problem upon problem and always ending with the infuriating phrase, “Solve for x.” James H. Smith spent his 32-year teaching career assisting students in mastering algebra. The supplementary activities used in his lesson plans serve as the foundation for his new activity workbook, “Algebra 1 Activities” (published by iUniverse).

“It is necessary for students to develop proficiency in mathematics to meet the challenges in today’s changing world as it relates to various careers,” states Smith. “As the world becomes more interdependent, students will face global competition. Being able to meet the challenge of change is inevitable; hence, this book has a great deal of activities to meet the students’ needs.”

According to the National Center for Education Statistics, U.S. eighth graders rank ninth in math with only seven percent of students reaching the advanced level in eighth grade math. Singapore and South Korea lead in eighth grade math with 47 percent reaching the advanced level. Smith hopes to encourage students to build strong algebraic foundations, which are prerequisites for proficiency in more advanced mathematics in the future high school and college years.

“Students should be able to demonstrate mastery of algebra skills and approach problem solving with more confidence.”

Evenell Sanders Turns Life’s Hardships into Poetry

(PRWEB) July 17, 2013 - NEWTON, Miss. - In her debut book of poetry and song, “My Life Experiences: From Having Cancer to Finding Out God Is the Answer—A Little Bit of It All” (published by iUniverse), Evenell Sanders hopes to bring comfort and hope to other people going through death and sickness.

Sander’s poetry comes from the hardships she faced. In one week, she lost her father and then her brother, and the following year, she went through a second divorce. In 2006, she was diagnosed with lung cancer. Sanders kept her hope and faith by praying and reading the Bible.

An excerpt from the poem, “Let Me Tell You”:

“Let me tell you how good Jesus has been to me.

He picked me up out of the lost and found.
He healed me when I was sick and down.
He turned my life clean around

He blessed me in the nick of time and restored my life with peace of mind.”

“The book is something everyone can relate to,” says Sanders, “and it can help them if they take heed to it not to make the same mistakes I’ve made.”

Author Lola Albion Publishes Her Adventures in New Book, ‘Working My Way through Retirement’

BRISBANE, Australia (PRWEB) July 17, 2013 - In “Working My Way through Retirement: E-Mails from Afar” (published by iUniverse) author Lola Albion recounts the many surprising and totally unexpected experiences that awaited her in places all over the world: places as far apart as a remote Aboriginal community in northern Australia to the more exotic lands of the Middle East.

Albion, who is retired, writes with joy and candor as she details her travels, giving inspiration to anyone who wishes to live a rich and exciting retirement.

“This book is particularly relevant to today’s society not only for those who have retired or who face retirement but for anyone who has a taste for adventure and is not afraid of life,” states Albion. “Age need not be a barrier.”

An excerpt from “Working My Way through Retirement”:

Since last putting pen to paper I have been bitten rather badly by a very strong-jawed dog. I usually carry a stick when I go out walking along the creek but since I was about to turn the corner into my street I had just thrown it away. There's a house near the corner with three yellowish dogs that run out barking and woofing when you go past but who then putter off inside the yard having had their say. However, this particular morning the three yellowish dogs cantered out and did their usual act and were swaggering back inside with a satisfied air when from somewhere in the back yard a bigger black and white dog roared out and raced straight at me and clamped a vice around my ankles - blood and puncture marks everywhere … but when it heard my voice it gave a satisfied growl and raced back to the previously mentioned trio who were now standing looking at me in a very interested manner and looking at their new-found black and white hero with great respect. You could almost see him dusting off his paws and saying to them, "That's how you do it chaps."

Mitchell Frogge Tells Both Outcomes of Life and Death

Hendersonville, TN (PRWEB) July 17, 2013 - Nobel Prize winner Brian Field’s life hangs by a thread. The lone survivor of a shootout at the Nobel Prize ceremony, Brian’s life suddenly causes time to split off into two dimensions, one where he lives and the other where he dies. Both storylines are brought to life in Mitchell Frogge’s 2000 novel, “The Physicist” (published by iUniverse), which is getting a revived marketing campaign in 2013.

“It started with a single idea about the smartest man in the world who developed graviton detection equipment,” explains Frogge. “From there I imagined what would happen to the world if he lived and what would happen if he died.”

In one reality, Brian lives on and is rushed back to the United States, where he is held prisoner and forced to work on new technology for the military. After two years, he escapes and goes on to found Field Corporation. He uses his technology to fight terrorism and prepare for World War III, which is now inevitable.

In the second reality, Brian dies, and his research goes to his wife, Sandy. She soon discovers that World War III is coming, and unless she follows Brian’s instructions, no one will be left alive. She starts a colony in northern Canada to save humanity using Brian’s greatest secret, but the world’s survival isn’t promised, not even with all of Brian’s research.

“I was not able to decide which story line to follow so I followed both story lines to their completion,” Frogge says, “It is original in its approach to telling the story. The characters are interesting and while driven by events, they also drive events. In spite of the obstacles they must overcome they still maintain their humanity and strive to better humanity.”

Arlene Warner Presents Novel 'Labor of the Heart'

Lacrosse, KS (PRWEB) July 17, 2013 - In her new novel, "Labor of the Heart" (published by iUniverse), Christian author Arlene Warner presents a tale of two young immigrants struggling with faith, hardships and romance.

Katerina Zanonna and Clemente Basetti meet on an immigrant boat in 1893. A few years later, their paths cross in Kansas. "Labor of the Heart" depicts their struggles in a new land, conflicts with each other, their families and within themselves.

An excerpt from "Labor of the Heart":

"He swallowed and looked thoughtful. 'I do not know exactly. I know only what I feel inside when I look at you.' He laid his fork on the plate, took her hand, and gazed into her eyes. 'Katerina, I want many times to be with you. May I speak to your father?'
Katerina gasped. 'No, you must not. I intended to tell you before.' She straightened her back and met his gaze. 'Clemente, I will enter the convent next summer.'
'Convent!' He grabbed the plate and jerked to his feet, allowing his fork to clatter to the floor. 'You cannot do that.'"

Warner knows her book will find ready readers, she says, because it "deals with various problems of immigration. It also delves into the importance of God in our everyday lives, especially in troubled times."

Blair Stevens Urges Readers to Make Their Choices

Whittier, CA (PRWEB) July 15, 2013 - In his new book, "I Made My Choice – Have You?: One Man’s Thoughts on Issues in Our National News and Possible Solutions" (published by iUniverse), author Blair Stevens touches on many current events in American politics and culture, offering readers an alternative viewpoint to what can be found in news media and national leadership.

Stevens is an everyman, a typical American, husband, father and business man. With "I Made My Choice – Have You?" he uses this relatable perspective to expound on the most pressing concerns facing Americans today: parenting, work, immigration, teen pregnancy, abortion, drug abuse, teen suicide, education and racism. In a down-to-earth style, "I Made My Choice – Have You?" challenges readers to look at current events through a different lens.

Stevens is humble about his book, which is based on experience – not research. "It is merely one man’s viewpoint which runs a bit contrary to conventional wisdom and ideas," he says.

However, he is enthusiastic about the potential his book has to inspire change in readers. "Wouldn’t it be cool if something I wrote influenced or even saved a life?" he asks.

Author Jude Morgan’s Sporting Story “National Past Time: Kingpin Alley”

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (PRWEB) July 12, 2013 - “National Past Time: Kingpin Alley” (published by iUniverse) is a novel based around life in a bowling alley. Author Jude Morgan conveys key human foundations of living a life based on values, and how important it is not to get carried away by greed and jealousy. Growing up in a bowling alley owned by his parents, Morgan wanted to write a story based on his experience – “an amazing time……. for a boy who loved to bowl.”

The book demonstrates how bowling can bring families and friends together. The book also covers the sensitive topic of parenting, and it is obvious that the author has been greatly inspired by his dad during his lifetime.

“I hope that today’s youth may understand their parents’ perspectives better after reading this book,” he states.

An excerpt from ‘National Past Time’

I've come to believe that dreams are hardly ever entertained and even less often realized. There are snares and traps, naysayers and enviers, obstacles to overcome and disenchantment through which to persist. If you pursue a dream, you give up being a part of the crowd, because dreamers stand out by nature. Success is not guaranteed. And that is enough to deter most people – but not my dad.

Louis R. Eltscher’s New Book Examines Men Who Tried to Kill Hitler

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (PRWEB) July 12, 2013 - In his new history book “Traitors or Patriots?: A Story of the German Anti-Nazi Resistance” (published by iUniverse) author and scholar Louis R. Eltscher explores the German men who, at the height of World War II, tried to assassinate Nazi leader Adolf Hitler.

“This book is a classic morality tale,” Eltscher says, “a story of the eternal struggle between good and evil. It speaks of those who resisted that evil and of those who succumbed to it.” He examines four of the conspirators, including Dietrich Bonhoeffer and Claus von Stauffenberg, who was dramatized by actor Tom Cruise in the Hollywood movie “Valkyrie.”

An excerpt from “Traitors or Patriots?”:

“These men surrendered neither to the blandishments of military victory nor to the despair of failure. Their goal – the overthrow of Nazi rule – was simple, although extremely difficult to achieve. Their failure to reach that goal is irrelevant. Their singleness of purpose in its pursuit is very relevant.”

“Unlike most other books on the subject of the anti-Nazi resistance, this is a story of the German resistance that is written within the broader context of German and European history,” Eltscher explains. “It explains the reasons for the attitudes and behavior of both the resistance leaders and the German people themselves.”

Joy Brisbane Presents New Book, ‘Walking with Spirit’

BUNINYONG, Australia (PRWEB) July 11, 2013 - In her new book “Walking with Spirit” (published by iUniverse) author Joy Brisbane offers readers a new path to finding happiness from within, rather than from without.

“My book is a guide to help the reader gain self-love and self-acceptance,” Brisbane says. “It is an aid for people seeking to gain a deeper meaning in life and to find their inner spiritual path.”

An excerpt from “Walking with Spirit”:

“Real happiness is a happiness that is found within us that is a fountain of joy always present, always waiting for us to discover it; a happiness that comes from learning to accept and love self. A happiness that comes from knowing that we were born perfect and that, in our innermost being, our soul self, we still are perfect. When we find our divinity to balance our humanity, then we find that fountain of joy!”

“This is not a textbook,” Brisbane points out. “I have deliberately kept it small and concise so it is easy for the reader to absorb the powerful messages it contains.”
